SUCCESS STORIES

At The Rush, the idea that success leads to further success becomes a rewarding reality for so many of our members. We invite you to read their stories, told in their own words. We believe that you will be inspired; learn that change is possible; discover that fun and fitness do belong
together; and that where you work out does make a difference.

Will Johnson
I joined the RUSH fitness center in its original Hendersonville Rd in February 2009.  It had been a while since I had worked out, and had never done it what seemed like the right way, so the personal training deal that was offered seemed like a good way to start.  At my first workout with Katie Taneyhill I weighed in at 280 pounds and 35% body fat.  After 18 months of work now I weigh about 205 pounds and am at 18% body fat.  I have more energy and confidence.  I truly feel good about my self now and am doing things that I never thought I would.

"I have been over weight for half of my life, but had always considered myself fairly healthy. I began feeling bad for a couple months, then in October 2008 I went to the doctor for a physical.  I was diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure.

A week later The RUSH opened on Haywood Rd., Asheville.  I met Jenni, Samuel, and the rest of the RUSH Team.  With their encouragement, and my diligence, I have gone from a size 26 pants and a 5X shirt to a size 14 pants and an XL shirt. It's a commitment daily to exercise and eat healthy. My energy has gone out the roof!  I used to crave chocolate and bread, but now I crave the rush from the workout and encouragement from the staff at the new Patton Avenue club.

If you are just beginning, or thinking about joining, your life with change as soon as you experience The RUSH!"

GORDON ADKINS
"Back when I joined the Rush in May 2007, I was very much overweight. My health wasn’t the best. I weighed 355 pounds at 5’10” and had to wear overalls and 5XL shirts.  Today I weigh 277 pounds and wear XL shirts. So after my wife went home to be with the Lord in January 07, I retired from a job that I had done for 24 years. A job that I enjoyed doing.  I worked 50-60 hours per week as a truck driver. My wife was worried about my health and my overweight problem but with the hours that I worked, by the time the weekend came around, I was too tired to do anything but rest. So in May of 07, I started thinking and praying about what I should do. By the end of May I got my answer. That’s when I joined the Rush. I can remember when I joined, I was asked if I wanted to work with a male or female as my trainer and I told them that it didn’t matter. I just want to lose weight and get in shape. I had to wait a week before I could start because they were moving. I got my prayer answered you see, the Lord took my beautiful angel from me but he also sent me a beautiful trainer.  Her name is Megan Maines. I got the best because I prayed for the best.  I thank the Lord for her every day.

She worked me hard for about 4 weeks and then I went on vacation for 2 weeks. Then I worked out another 3-4 weeks and went on another vacation for 2 more weeks.  September of 07 is when all the hard workouts and sweat began. I train with Megan 4 times a week and 2 days on my own for a total of 6 workouts per week. We always have fun together. I look forward to working with her and she always keeps my spirits up. I enjoy working out with her.  I can remember saying to myself after I got started, what have you gotten yourself into?  I thought about not getting any more sessions after my first session. I did get more because I am not a quitter at anything. It might take longer and I might slow down but quitting won’t happen.  So after 170 sessions, I am still going.  I have lost a lot of weight and inches.  My last Doctor’s visits have been the best checkups that I can remember.  My blood pressure is down and my doctor has taken me off 3 of my medications.

It’s been hard but worth it. Everyone at the Rush has been so great, telling me how much better that I am looking.  To somebody as big as I was, that means more to me than they will ever know.  With the Lord’s help and Megan as my trainer, I can and will reach my goals.  Megan has a lot on her hands but she has been so great with me.  I have problems with both shoulders, my right knee and big toe. She is very patient with me. She helps me through my problems. She is very good at what she does and The Rush can be very proud that they have a trainer as great as she is. I know that I am. She tells me when I am doing good and tells me when I mess up. Then I try to do better, because she just wants me to get better. I know that I get mad at myself when I can’t get it right. She means more to me than just a trainer, she is also a great friend and somebody that I can talk to and put my trust into. In closing, I again want to thank all of the staff and trainers at the Cleveland, Tennessee Rush for their support. I have come a long ways and still have a ways to go. Thanks so much."

"Someone asked me once: "So what has The Rush done for you?" Well, I can answer that easily by saying: The Rush saved my life! My adventure started 3 years and 65 pounds ago. I was headed toward diabetes and a whole host of medical problems. The last thing I wanted to do was join a gym and ‘get fit’. Thankfully, one of my friends challenged me to join with her and reluctantly I agreed. The first thing I did was purchase personal training sessions to get acquainted with, and learn how to properly use the equipment. That was literally the best decision I could have made because it made me accountable. I knew that twice a week I had to workout whether I wanted to or not. Now I average working out five days a week and absolutely love each workout. I have gone from a size 22 to a size 10!

As a result of purchasing personal training sessions, I met three of the most outstanding trainers the facility could offer in Ashley Pope, Tara Enoch and most recently Katie VanZeeland. Not only were these ladies awesome individuals who pushed me beyond any limit I thought possible, they have also become very dear friends and my avid cheerleaders.

The Rush has provided me with a platform to become not only more healthy physically, but my entire outlook on life is so much healthier. I will never regret my decision to join because, like I said previously, "The Rush saved my lif
e."
